Poetry Together from the Manchester Children's Book Festival

The Manchester Children's Book Festival is happening June 24 - July 3, 2016. Under the direction of Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy MMU and the Manchester Children’s Book Festival, they are joining forces with the Co-operative Charity Partnership with the British Red Cross to launch ‘Poetry Together’.

‘Poetry Together’ is a brand new cross-generational competition that invites children and young people to pair up with a parent, grandparent, care giver, older sibling or friend, to share their ideas and create brand new poetry. The aim of the competition is to bring people together creatively, while also raising awareness of the great work that the British Red Cross do to help tackle loneliness among the most vulnerable people.

It's FREE to enter and the deadline for the competition is Friday April 29, 2016. All entries will be considered immediately after the deadline and shortlisted entrants announced mid-May. Entries must be a collaboration and written jointly by two people; one must be under 18, one 18 or over. Poems can be in any language (or more than one!), but non-English submissions must be accompanied by an English translation.

As well as receiving 200 copies of their poems (100 copies for each entrant of the pair) on specially designed postcards, all shortlisted entrants will be invited to the launch of the Manchester Children’s Book Festival (MCBF) in June, where their poetry will be shared and celebrated by Carol Ann Duffy. The overall winner from the shortlist will be announced at the MCBF launch event and both adult and child will be presented with the Poetry Together award. Each will also receive book-vouchers worth £500 (£250 for each entrant).
