Bettendorf Library calls for poetry contest entries: The Bettendorf Public Library is seeking entrants in its poetry contest.
In commemoration of Banned Books Week, the Great Endings poetry contest at the library challenges poets to use the last line from a banned book somewhere in a poem. A list of possibilities can be found on the website www.bettendorflibrary.com or in hard copy at the Bettendorf Public Library.
There are two contest levels: youth (middle school through high school) and adult (beyond high school). Poets must live within a 50-mile radius of the Quad-Cities. Up to two poems may be submitted, each no longer than one page. The final judge will be author Chris Crutcher.
Submissions must be postmarked no later than Sept. 5 and should include name, contact information, level and where the “great ending” you used came from. Read more
