Summer Poetry Good Reads: American Poets Magazine

“Our love for poetry makes us look ahead to the young and new generations of poets arising... May we, their audience, help them all we possibly can.”
—Marie Bullock, Academy of American Poets founder

Summer is typically “the” season of the year that is full of outdoor fun, festivities and food! While you’re fitting in some time for a little R&R along with several good ole summertime good reads, we will feature some books of poetry that you can indulge in on those lazy, crazy, hazy days of summer.

The Academy of American Poets publishes a journal called American Poets that provides a panorama of the contemporary poetic landscape, featuring writing by America’s most talented poets.  The Spring-Summer 2014 edition of American Poets includes several articles, impressive poetry and features on Chris Hosea, 2013 Walt Whitman Award Winner; Patricia Smith, 2013 Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize Winner; Carolyn Forché, 2013 Academy Fellowship Winner; Philip Levine, 2013 Wallace Stevens Award Winner; and new Chancellors who will act as ambassadors of poetry, selected by the members of the Academy’s Board of Chancellors. These new members will serve for a period of 6 years.
