What is a Steeping Cup?

3-piece steeping cup from Dragon Pearl Whole Teas
Have you ever thought about enjoying a nice cup of tea without wasting or fussing over your precious leaves beyond that single serving? The tea industry makes an assortment of accoutrements to appease the individual tea lover so that they can enjoy a cup of tea at anytime and anywhere.  There are special porcelain teacups called steeping cups, used to steep an individual serving of tea without getting the tealeaves into the drink. Porcelain is the ideal material for a steeping cup because it will not alter the aroma or taste of your loose-leaf tea. The process will give you an opportunity to make loose tea just as easy as you would with a tea bag.

A steeping cup comes in a 3-piece set that consists of the following components: a ceramic teacup, an infuser and lid. These cups are wonderful for steeping tea at a lower temperature. First, put a pinch of tea in the filter or infuser. Put the infuser into the cup and pour hot steaming water into the filter. Place the lid on top of the infuser for about 3 to 5 minutes and allow the tealeaves to steep. You do not want to throw the tealeaves away because you could get several more infusions depending on the type and quality of your leaves.

Experiment with different types of tealeaves and enjoy the essence of a great cup of tea without the fuss of a large teapot.
