A Gaiwan from Stash Tea |
A Gaiwan is a traditional Chinese covered bowl or cup that is the preferred method used for infusing and consuming tea. Used in China since the year 1350, this hot steeping vessel was first created during the Ming Dynasty.
The Gaiwan includes a saucer, bowl/cup and lid, and is suitable for practically any type of tea. The lid enables your tea to be infused in the bowl and you can drink it right from the bowl. Before using your Gaiwan, rinse it thoroughly to make sure it is free from any type of dust particles or foreign residue. Here is an extraordinary demonstration by http://www.tetere.com/ that shows the ceremonial process of preparing tea using a gaiwan.
