Drinking Tea from a Samovar

A Samovar

Often we find ourselves feeling and behaving differently when we experience something that comes from an extraordinary piece of majestic artisanship. A decorative teacup, a unique shaped teapot and the essence of a superb blend of tea are things many tea lovers share and appreciate.

There is a Russian expression “to have a sit by samovar” that means, “to have a leisurely talk while drinking tea from samovar” when translated. What is a samovar? A samovar is a heated metal container that is traditionally used to heat and boil water. This was practiced around Russia and in other South-Eastern, Central, Middle East and Eastern European countries.

Traditionally, samovars were heated with charcoal or coal. Newer samovars use electricity to heat water like an electric water boiler. Normally, a samovar consists of the following parts:

A body
base
chimney
cover with steam vent
handles
faucet with key
crown with ring
a chimney extension and cap
a drip bowl
teapots

These water heating works of art dazzle your senses with a distinctive admiration for fine artistic creations that’s functional and collectible. Have you ever experienced or had the opportunity to drink tea from a samovar?
